I always thought that a Christian was somebody who followed the behavioral model set by Jesus.
From the little that we know of Jesus, he literally had no possessions, save the clothes on his back. He wasn’t adorned in the finest clothes. He didn’t live in the nicest house. And he didn’t have a fleet of the finest camels to ride around.
Robert Schuller started the “Crystal Cathedral” many years ago. Last month the church filed for bankruptcy.
Now there’s a lawsuit against Schuller and his family claiming that they were paying themselves lavish salaries and other benefits while the church was going broke.
Today there’s news that the Schullers are asking church members to provide meals for them for the next 3 to 4 weeks, because Mrs. Schuller has been sick.
Here’s the bite: They’re asking that all meals be dropped off at the church, so that the limos can transport the food to the Schuller’s residence.
I’m so sick of religious leaders bathing themselves in riches at the expense of those in the congregation who are almost always poorer.
Doesn’t seem very Christian to me.
