How do we select our vehicles? Does the ride reflect the personality and occupation of the driver?
I think it does.
I suppose the stereotypical illustration that first comes to mind is the guy going through a mid-life crisis, who goes out and buys a sports car. And what does this say when the mid-life man has 2 sports cars, Jay?
Of course, we have those “penis-extender” vehicles too; for those males who feel that Mother Nature cheated them below the belt. These are the monster-trucks and muscle cars that appear bigger and more powerful than all the other vehicles on the road.
We have our tree-hugging, greenies, most of whom drive the Toyota Prius. Why is it that they persistently drive 55 mph in the hammer lane, when everybody else is going 80 mph? Does the environmentalist personality also envelop a self-righteous slant? (“I’m going the speed limit, and if you don’t like it….too bad! I’m saving the planet!”)
For the CEO’s and real power brokers, there’s nothing like a Bentley. Of course, these cars cost more than most homes in this country. Nothing practical about a Bentley. It’s pure show for those who have the real dough.
I think women gravitate to vehicles that are more practical for their basic transportation needs. My wife loves her little Honda SUV. It easily holds her golf clubs and allows her to “ride high” while jetting along the freeways.
Soccer moms love mini-vans. Perfect for hauling all the kids and teammates to the various functions.
Crazy guys….guys who are adrenalin junkies….guys who have death wishes….skydivers, jet pilots, electricians and sailors drive crotch-rockets. For them, there’s nothing like zooming in between cars at 120 mph. (No worries, that helmet and heavy-duty leather clothing will save you in the event of a crash!)
Blue-collar guys who work with their hands drive pick-up trucks. Nice interiors, but a truck bed to haul all the stuff from Home Depot every Saturday morning.
Landscapers drive the smaller-sized pick-up trucks. Somehow these manage to hold all their mowers, trimmers, ladders, lawn clippings, as well as the 6 workers who stuff themselves in the cab.
And then we have the Asian female drivers, who shouldn’t be driving anything at all!
