My deceased step-father used to tell me that the War Between The States (“Never call it the Civil War!”) was all about states’ rights.
When the Founders formed this nation, they believed that the states were to be the centers of the democratic experiment. They never intended that they be uniform.
For example, alcohol prohibition ended in 1933. However, local laws restricting sales still exist in 33 states.
The federal government does not mess with those laws.
After telling the people during his campaign in 2008, “I’m not going to be using the Justice Dept resources to try to circumvent state laws on this issue,” Obama’s DOJ is now busy putting pressure on the 16 states (and District of Columbia) who have legalized medical marijuana. Clinics are being shut down and those who run them are facing prosecution.
Does this make sense?
Let’s go after cancer patients who are simply trying to get some relief from the side-effects of the poisoning chemotherapy drugs and radiation! Great idea. That’s a wonderful use of governmental resources and tax dollars.
Meanwhile, chief legal jerk, Eric Holder, oversees the “Fast and Furious” program where our government sells assault rifles to Mexican drug cartel members – ending in at least one death of a U.S. Border Patrol agent. (Then, of course, Black Panther lover, Holder lies and tries to tell us that he didn’t know about this until much later – despite evidence to the contrary.)
What do you think is more dangerous? Somebody smoking a joint in the privacy of his own home or Mexican mobsters coming across the border, armed with AK-47’s?
