Here's my theory:
The U.S. Government did not tell Pakistani officials about the raid because they feared that Usama bin Laden would be tipped off. As my brother used to be fond of saying, "No Duh!"
UBL's plan to "hide out" was a very smart one. Rather than selecting some obscure cave in the mountains of Afghanistan, he picks a house in a suburb, next to a military location.
Remember UBL is a millionaire. So, he pays the Pakistani officials handsomely to protect him and let him know if and when the U.S. plans to come. And the U.S. would, of course, let their allies the Pakistanis know in advance, right?
Meanwhile, Pakistan's intelligence service (ISI) arrests just enough Taliban clowns to keep the U.S. thinking that the Pakistanis are on our side.
Very smart indeed.
Glad that we caught on to the UBL - Pakistani game - and did what we did.
Now Pakistan is in a precarious position. Their true allegiance has been "outed."
And UBL? Well, he went to Davey Jone's Locker, didn't he? Or as the mob would say, "Osama sleeps with the fishes."
At least that's the story we are being told.
